For those of you who sell to dealers, how much do you discount your guitars. If you are a dealer, let me hear from you as well.
TIA, John

For most, including myself, the discount is 40% more than that and your
taking a big hit and less than that and not too many dealers want
to mess with it since the profit margin is so low.

I have had a couple of Stores offer to carry my guitars for 25%. So far I haven't taken then up on it.

Consignment is usually 20% and wholesale is 30% - 40%.

yeah consignment will vary a lot depending on the store. Anywhere from
15-25% usually, but as a rule of thumb for me I don't do consignment.
Wholesale is 30-50% with 50% being the big boys like Taylor and Martin
ect...

John.... 40%???

I don't want to say what kind of discount I give to dealers, but its way less than that....

I've heard that 30% is the norm for most classical makers anyhow.

Yep 40%. that is pretty much standard fare in the guitar market. I don't
know what classical guys do. That large of a discount is why a small
maker does not want too many dealers. 1 or 2 dealers is a good thing
because it is great exposure, but lots of dealers is not as smart unless
your set up for volume.
